Safe Home Scheme

Property worth millions of rupees is lost due to burglaries and thefts. Islamabad, having a major composition of floating population, is more vulnerable to this menace. Thousands of people commute daily to the city for their jobs. This cyclic migratory nature facilitates the criminals to enter in city in the grab of job seekers. The places giving the impression of loose security became their easy prey and target.
No where in the world in the world Police alone can control the crime. It is now the collective responsibility of police and the community. Islamabad Police has now introduced a “safe Home Scheme” for the residents of the city. It was formally launched on 18 th July, 2000 in F-11 Sector as pilot project.

SECURITY STEPS RECOMMENDED

Following are the few security measures which are suggested and recommended for the community.

  I) RECIPROCAL BELL
Arrange fixation of bells with your neighbors on reciprocal basis. In case some armed persons enters in the house, the inmates can intimate their neighbor by pressing the button of the Bell. The neighbor can then intimate Rescue-15 who will be there within 5 minute.

II) BURGLAR ALARM

Install a burglar alarm in the house. In case of any break in, the hooter will start blowing. This will not only create awareness amongst the neighbors but would also have psychological impact on the intruders who would then try to escape.

III) STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENTS

a) The Iron grills must be fixed in the glass windows and ventilators.
b) The boundary wall should be of sufficient height making it difficult for the passers-by to peep in the house. It must be guarded pieces on top. This will make difficult for the criminal to jump inside.

IV) FISH EYE/DOOR CHAIN

Never let the stranger come inside without being satisfied of his identity. For this a small peep hole/fish eye, a glass device, can be fixed at the entrance door. This can help in seeing outside for identification of the visitor. A door chain should also be attached with a door. This would help in the visitor without opening the door completely.

V) GATES AND LIGHTS

a) Never leave the gates open even if one is in a hurry. This generally gives an impression that the male members are out for work and only ladies are inside.
b) Always keep the entrance doors including the kitchen doors locked chained even during the day.

VI) BURGLAR ALARM
a) Don’t employ domestic servants without getting their particulars verified from the local police. always keep copy of their I.D. Cards and address of some of his reference/surety.
b) Don’t discuss cash transaction and placement of valuables in front them.
c) Keep an eye on the visitors of the servants and frequently visit their quarters.
